Bring back the joy. Bring back the snacks.

Life used to be simple. Our biggest dilemma was choosing between a Paddle Pop or a packet of chips at the school canteen. Weekends meant cartoons, cereal, and sugary treats that tasted like pure happiness.

But as we grew up, the world changed, and so did our favourite snacks. Slowly, quietly, some of the most iconic Aussie treats disappeared from shelves, leaving a nostalgic hole in our hearts and lunchboxes.

Here are five dearly missed snacks that defined our childhoods.

Lifesavers Hard Candy
The holy grail of canteen lollies, the foil-wrapped rolls of rainbow delight. Whether you were hoarding the pineapple ones or licking them to razor-thin discs, Lifesavers were a ritual. Their quiet 2023 exit was a betrayal.

Green Frogs
Lime. Weird, zingy, and completely underappreciated. While Red Frogs hogged the spotlight, Green Frogs were the real ones, sour, soft, and divisive. Axed in 2014, briefly revived, but are now extinct.

Time Out Bars
Flake’s cooler cousin. Wafer, chocolate, joy. A post-school snack masterpiece. When Cadbury swapped them for the lacklustre ‘Time Out Wafer,’ we knew we’d lost something special. RIP to that satisfying crunch.

Fantales
Name a lolly more Aussie than Fantales? Chewy caramel, a dentist’s worst nightmare. Their 2023 demise sparked nationwide mourning. It felt like we lost a family member.

Starburst Chews
You either fought for pink or lived in denial. These sticky squares ruled lunchboxes, glove compartments, and sleepovers. Their 2022 vanishing act? A national crisis. No bootleg can replace them.

Which one broke your heart the most?

Because Aussie childhoods were built on more than just Vegemite and Milo, they were built on Lifesavers, Fantales, Time Outs and frogs of every colour. Forgotten favourites that deserve a comeback. Which one do you still crave?
