Thank god, cause I’m too poor to go overseas to see Noah Kahan play in the states.

The NSW Government have made the decision to offer venue hire discounts in the hopes International artists feel more inclined to visit Australia. The hopes is that A) we might see more artists on our shores and increase the amount of live music acts, and B) that local artists might find success in working as supporting acts on larger stages.

Many Aussie artists find great success in being supporting acts for larger international bands from some more notable and established acts like the Hilltop Hoods whop supported Eminem, to Teen Jesus and Jean Teasers who are both supported Pearl Jam in Australia and are now touring with them. It happens all the time and it’s a great way to get Aussie bands in front of larger crowds. Gang of Youths got a huge boost after touring with Mumford & Sons, and Ball Park Music will likely see similar when they open for Oasis in November.

The new plan will offer promoters a $20,000 venue hire discount under the promise the travelling artist uses an Australian act or band as their support act. In what is sure to be a win/win situation for all involved. Minister for music John Graham is working over time to get the Australian music scene in a stronger place in the post-covid world. Last year in the 2024 ARIA top 100 only three local acts featured. Graham going so far to say that the music industry is currently in crisis.

The plan and initiative does seem like a huge positive step in the right direction to help promote and support live music in Australia, as well as, supporting local Australian musicians. Here’s hoping other states take up a similar plan.
