The Queen of All Media has officially landed. For the first time since 2015, Oprah Winfrey is back on Australian soil, kicking off a highly anticipated tour that promises to be as inspirational as it is intimate.
The 71-year-old media mogul’s private jet touched down in Sydney on Monday, marking the beginning of a whirlwind visit that will see her grace stages in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne. While her arrival was met with the fanfare you would expect for global royalty, one particular interaction at the tarmac has already set the tone for the trip: informative, grounded, and just a little bit cheeky.
The “Car” Moment
It is impossible to separate Oprah from her most iconic pop culture moment. We all remember the 2004 television broadcast that spawned the meme where she famously screamed, “You get a car! You get a car! Everybody gets a car!” to a hysterical studio audience.
Clearly, that moment lives rent-free in the mind of one hopeful Australian fan who greeted Oprah at the airport with a sign reading: “Oprah plz buy me a car.”

It was a bold strategy. Unfortunately for the sign-holder, the days of Pontiac G6 giveaways are behind us. However, proving she still has her signature wit, Oprah didn’t ignore the request. She let the fan down gently but offered a modern consolidation prize.
“You get a selfie! …but not a car,” she joked, before posing for the photo. While a digital souvenir might not have the horsepower of a new sedan, it is certainly a story for the grandkids.
What is Oprah Doing Down Under?
Oprah is not here just to sightsee. She is embarking on a string of “In Conversation” events. Unlike her massive arena spectaculars from her last visit in 2015, these shows are billed as “special and intimate.”
The events will be moderated by one of Australia’s own media veterans, Melissa Doyle. The format is designed to offer a rare glimpse into the mind of a woman who has interviewed everyone from Michael Jackson to Prince Harry.
Ticketek has described the evenings as a deep dive into “the power of authenticity to the necessity of resilience.” It appears the goal is to provide a masterclass in life, with the ticketing giant noting that Oprah’s reflections will “resonate with anyone seeking purpose, inspiration, or a spark to reimagine their own path.”
Considering the chaotic state of the world in 2025, a little guidance from Oprah might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Dates and Ticket Availability
If you are hoping to absorb some wisdom (or perhaps try your luck asking for a car), you are in luck. As of Tuesday, tickets were still available for all legs of the tour.
Here is where you can catch her:
- Sydney: Thursday, December 4 at the TikTok Entertainment Centre (formerly ICC Sydney Theatre). Tickets start at $174.50.
- Adelaide: Saturday, December 6 at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Arena. Tickets start at $109.
- Brisbane: Monday, December 8 at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Tickets start at $109.
- Melbourne: Thursday, December 11 at the Plenary, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Tickets start at $109.
With the first show kicking off in Sydney this week, time is running out to secure a seat. As Oprah herself said recently, “Bring your friends, cousins, siblings, everybody.”
Just maybe leave the “buy me a car” signs at home.
