A Yorke Peninsula fisherman has urged the closure of the Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent to fishing, aiming to protect breeding stocks for the future.

The call came during the third day of a Senate inquiry into the recent algal bloom in SA waters, held in Ardrossan last Thursday.

Speakers included local government representatives, fishers, the Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation, scientists, and community groups.

He says both gulfs should be closed to fishing to safeguard what may be the last remaining breeding stocks.
