Young residents in Port Pirie will find their voice, as the Port Pirie Council and Uniting Country SA put together a Youth Reference Group.

The group will be responsible for helping the council cater to their younger residents with ideas for events and projects.

Port Pirie Council’s Community Development Coordinator Megan Cusack says Expressions of Interest will open soon, and the group will be established prior to 30 June.

“We’re looking at about 10 individuals from the ages 15 to 24 years of age -they can be from any area in the Port Pirie Regional Council area,” Cusack says.

Uniting Country SA’s Evan Garnaut says this group is especially important for a region like Port Pirie.

“We’ve got 1 per cent more average young people than the state average, Garnaut explains.

“What we need is to really find out, one – the issues that are affecting young people in our community, and two – how can we make that better, how can we address the issues, how can we communicate with young people to find out what they need?”

Keep an eye on Council’s website and social media for further information on the Expression of Interest process.
