Cuttlefest in Whyalla may have finished but the South Australian Museum has announced the winners of the 20th Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition, and one of the regions cuttlefish is the star.
With 2,182 entries from 550 photographers across ten nations, the competition showcases the world’s natural wonders.
Photographer Matty Smith won the Animals in Nature category with ‘Aftermath,’ an underwater shot of a giant cuttlefish in Whyalla surrounded by the creatures defensive ink.
Acting Director Justine van Mourik praised the entries for reflecting nature’s fragility and power, with the competition designed to draw attention to the urgent need for conservation.
