Today marks the second day of SAPOL’s Operation Return to School, targeting school zones as students head back to the classroom.
The operation will focus on the safety of children and pedestrians around school zones.
The last time the operation ran in early MAY, 65 fines were issued for various offences including speeding, and using their mobile phone while driving.
Officers will be seen on foot, while mobile driver testing is also expected.
Data provided by the RAA shows pedestrian and cyclist crashes involving minors peaks around school pick up and drop off times with more than a third of lives lost and injury crashes occurring between 8am – 9am and 3pm – 4pm.
