Spencer Gulf snapper recovery

Dwindling snapper numbers in the Spencer Gulf are being remedied by the State Government’s $8.8-million Snapper Recovery Package.

Around 50,000 juvenile’s have been released into the Spencer Gulf in small batches near Weeroona Island recently, adjacent to a known nursery.

The three-year package is expected to see up to 900,000 fingerlings produced and reintroduced in the Gulf.

Bans on snapper fishing in the waters off the West Coast, Spencer Gulf and Gulf St Vincent will remain in place until 30 June, 2026.
