A Statewide skills overhaul is tackling mental health support for construction apprentices, boosting gender diversity in trades, and improving course completion rates.
With just 45% of Australians finishing vocational courses and skills shortages rampant, Minister for Education, Training and Skills Blair Boyer is leading a nationwide initiative to address these issues.
The Construction Industry Training Board’s 2023-24 Annual Training Plan will allocate almost $30 million to aid apprentices, current workers, and students in construction over the next 12 months.
Amid South Australia’s task of delivering 100,000 vocational education training qualifications in five years, the ATP underscores mental health and workforce diversity, intorducing fully funded courses to bolster workplace mental health, bridging an existing gap.
The ATP also emphasizes gender diversity as construction tackles workforce demand.
Initiatives like “doorways2construction” encourage schools to explore industry avenues, particularly for women.
