Improvements to our region’s power network are on the way, with SA Power Networks announcing a $10 million spend to boost reliability and combat insulation pollution.

About 10,000 insulators will be replaced over 33 powerlines across the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas, while 15 high-voltage automation switches will be installed.

The upgrades will require more than 25,000 hours of work over the next six months, with works beginning in July targeting the 33kV network.

Member for Grey Tom Venning said the announcement was a positive outcome for the regions, but raised concerns about the ongoing issues at the South Hummocks substation.

“It does not address the broader reliability issues facing the Yorke Peninsula,” he said. “It is critical the South Hummocks substation is upgraded to ensure reliable power for communities.”

The South Hummocks station suffered a 22-hour power outage in 2025, affecting most of the region.

The majority of the works will centre around the Yorke Peninsula, while other replacements will also occur on the Eyre Peninsula.
