Man faces court after allegedly assaulting police officer in Port Augusta

A man has faced court after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Port Augusta.

Officers on patrol along Conroy Street noticed a man stumbling in the middle of the road just before midnight on Tuesday.

It’s alleged that during questioning, the man became aggressive and punched a female officer in the face.

She was taken to hospital for minor injuries.

Extra patrols were called to the scene, with one of the officers using capsicum spray to subdue the suspect.

The 29-year-old Northern Territory man was arrested and charged with assaulting a prescribed emergency services worker, resist arrest and refuse to state name and address.

He was refused bail and appeared in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
