The State Government is supporting the livestock industry with a $150,000 grant to Livestock SA for a business case study.
This study aims to explore the feasibility of establishing a state-wide network of truck washing and effluent facilities.
By enhancing safety, efficiency, and biosecurity at livestock trans-shipping hubs, South Australia’s $4.1 billion livestock industry can be better prepared against diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease, Lumpy Skin Disease, and African Swine Fever.
The proposed truck wash facilities would strengthen the state’s already high biosecurity standards and minimize weed spread in sensitive areas, benefitting both the industry and the environment.
Livestock SA will investigate washdown objectives and technical specs among other things.
The business case analysis is expected to be completed by May next year, providing a roadmap for potential facilities across the state.
These proactive measures aim to fortify the livestock industry and enhance biosecurity for South Australia.
