Project EnergyConnect, a high-voltage power interconnector between Robertstown, about two hours south of Port Pirie and Wagga Wagga, is expected to save residential power customers $127 annually.
Businesses across the state could see annual savings of between $6,000 and $18,000, depending on their size and electricity consumption.
ElectraNet’s COO, Rainer Korte, said the new interconnector would play a crucial role in lowering electricity prices and unlocking renewable energy development while strengthening South Australia’s position as a leader in the transition to a clean energy.
Project EnergyConnect will span 900km and have a capacity of 800 megawatts, equivalent to supplying 240,000 extra households with energy.
Construction is more than 50% complete, with the South Australian component expected to be finished by year-end.
