Four teens arrested over stolen car in Whyalla

Four youths have been arrested after they allegedly stole a car from Whyalla Norrie over the weekend.

It is understood the keys to a Nissan X-Trail were stolen during a home break-in on the morning of Saturday, 31 May.

Later that evening, between 7pm and 9:45pm, the suspects allegedly returned to the address and stole the victim’s car from the carport.

The car was seen travelling down Caroona Road, near the Eyre Highway.

The occupants left the car running and fled the scene, with patrols setting up cordons in the nearby scrubland and searching the area.

Four youths were found hiding in the bushes; they attempted to run but were quickly arrested.

A 12-year-old from Port Pirie South, two 13-year-olds from Port Augusta and Whyalla Stuart and a 14-year-old from Port Augusta were all charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, breach of bail and hindering police.

Three boys were granted police bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Youth Court on 13 August.

The fourth boy did not apply for bail and will appear in court on Monday 2 June.
