The Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board and National Parks and Wildlife Service SA have joined forces to protect the Cowleds Landing Marine Sanctuary Zone near Whyalla.
Barbara Murphy, Whyalla Landscape Officer, highlighted the importance of the region’s mangrove saltmarsh habitat, which supports various species and marine food webs.
The project involves community engagement to raise awareness and appreciation.

Lana Roediger, Senior Ranger, notes the sanctuary zone’s proximity to Whyalla, drawing both boat and shore visitors.
Educational signs and ecological restoration efforts are also in place.
