Crackdown on vaping and smoking

A fresh crackdown on vaping begins today, with the risk of fines for those caught vaping near schools, hospitals and shopping centres.

Swimming pools, jetties and kids sporting events will also be targeted by the new rules.

Doctor Victoria Cock from Drug and Alcohol Services SA says vapes are damaging.

“Some of these contain more than 200 toxic chemicals, Doctor Cock says.

“These chemicals include things like arsenic, mercury, formaldehyde… plant poison, and nail polish remover.”

These new rules apply to cigarettes too, and anyone caught under the new rules will face an on-the-spot fine of $105.
