As counting continues in South Australia, the race for second place in the seat of Grey is still in question.
The AEC reports that 8o per cent of the votes have been counted, with the Liberal’s Tom Venning holding 35 per cent of first preferences.
He leads ahead of Labor’s 22.5 per cent and the Independent’s 18.2 per cent.
Grey is one of the largest electorates in the country, covering 92 per cent of the state, and has long been considered a safe Liberal seat.
However, with a 10 per cent swing away from the Blue corner this year, the AEC’s Cameron Stokes said it’s been a closer race than initially anticipated.
“AEC will only declare results once it’s mathematically impossible for any other result to happen,” he said.
“We’re not anticipating that anything will change in that regard, but we won’t make any announcements about that.”
Mr Venning is widely considered to be the elected member, with further counting not likely to change the outcome.
Grey is one of only two predicted seats to be won by the LNP.
