Burra resident Dr. Barbara Piscitelli’s collection of children’s art, reflecting their response to the Covid pandemic in China and Australia, was recently inducted into the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register.
This prestigious recognition honors significant documentary heritage.
Dr. Piscitelli expressed her overwhelming happiness and gratitude for the acknowledgement, emphasizing the rarity of such recognition while still alive.
The collection, titled “Pandemic Picture Stories,” captures the children’s imagination of the pandemic and their hope for the future.
She will travel to schools in Booborowie, Robertstown, Eudunda and Burra to help students create art before exhibiting the works at the Burra Regional Art Gallery in 2024.
However, additional funds are still required to complete the project. Interested individuals can contribute by contacting the Burra Community Management Committee.
