After a successful 10-month trial, these rules were solidified in November 2022.

The positive impact of reduced alcohol availability were highlighted, leading to fewer serious injuries and better engagement with health services.

Besides Port Augusta, alcohol purchasing restrictions are in place in Ceduna, Coober Pedy, and Whyalla.

The initiative’s success has prompted discussions about similar restrictions in other regions.
