An archer in Adelaide has pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs into Port Augusta prison.
Christopher John West was caught firing an arrow with a package attached to it over the prison walls, containing over 5g of drugs worth just over $31,000.
Prosecutors have asked the District Court to jail West for his role in the crime syndicate’s plan to deliver drugs to the prison.
However, West’s lawyer argued that his client was no more than a bit player in someone else’s “masterplan”.
The court heard that West’s only role was to fire the arrow, which he was due to be paid $500 for.
He did not attach the drugs or purchase the bow used. West is due to be sentenced next week.
