Dearest gentle readers, Netflix is heading back to the ton, and this time, we are getting the origin story of the ultimate Bridgerton matriarch.

If you thought Queen Charlotte’s romance was a tearjerker, you might want to start stocking up on tissues now. Who is Behind the New Bridgerton Spin-Off?

We have seen Ruth Gemmell bring a brilliant warmth to Lady Violet over the past four seasons, but casting for her younger counterpart is still tightly under wraps. What we do know is that the show is in incredibly safe hands. Franchise creator Shonda Rhimes is teaming up with Nicholas Nardini to serve as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners. Tom Verica is also on board to direct and executive produce alongside Betsy Beers.

What Does This Mean for the Main Series?

Don’t worry, the flagship show isn’t slowing down. As we look forward to the fifth season next year—which focuses on Francesca (Hannah Dodd)—and the highly anticipated sixth season centred on Eloise (Claudia Jessie), this prequel is the perfect treat to keep our period drama obsession well and truly fed.

The success of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story proved that audiences love exploring the history behind their favourite characters. Finding out how Violet and Edmund fell in love before tragedy struck is bound to be a magnificent addition to the universe.
