Most people settle for a romantic dinner or a beach sunset when popping the question. Not these two.
A daredevil couple has made headlines around the world after climbing to the very top of New York City’s iconic Empire State Building before getting engaged more than 440 metres above the streets below.
A Proposal With A View
The couple, identified as rooftop explorers Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, climbed onto the building’s restricted antenna and unfurled a banner carrying a message about peace before stopping for a surprise proposal.
Photos later shared online showed Beerkus down on one knee before the pair celebrated their engagement high above Manhattan.
It Didn’t End There…
While it may have been a memorable proposal, it wasn’t exactly approved by building management.
Police quickly responded to the scene and the pair were taken into custody after climbing back down. Authorities are reportedly investigating how they managed to access the restricted area in the first place.
The couple are no stranger to extreme heights, having previously featured in the Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, which followed their death-defying climbs around the world.
Safe to say this engagement story will be pretty hard to top.
