If you’ve been holding off on your next world conquest because you didn’t want to swap civilisations mid-game, it’s time to boot up Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. The highly anticipated Test of Time Update is officially live, and it addresses the community’s biggest piece of feedback.
Start and Stay As One Civ The core of this free, massive update is the new Time-Tested Civs feature. You can now play as a single civilisation from your first settlement all the way to the modern era. While you can still choose to evolve your empire during Age Transitions, purists now have the option to maintain their historical identity. To keep things competitive outside of a civilisation’s “Apex Age,” a new Syncretism mechanic lets you adopt unique units and infrastructure from other cultures, or you can double down on your own traits using the Affirmation system.
A New Way to Win Firaxis Games has also overhauled how you claim victory. Legacy Paths are out, replaced by Triumphs—a flexible system offering optional objectives tied to six core attributes (Militaristic, Cultural, Scientific, Economic, Diplomatic, and Expansionist). In addition, the Victories system has been completely reworked to reward dominance across every age, giving you more varied paths to greatness.
More Than Just Mechanics The update isn’t just about rules. You’ll also find a new Fractal Continent map, dedicated Commerce and Advisor Council screens, fresh narrative events, and the addition of a free new leader: Alexander the Great.
Available across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms, the Test of Time Update synthesises over a year of playtesting into an update that fundamentally changes how Civilization VII is played. It’s time for another turn.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is available on PlayStation®5 (PS5®), PlayStation®4 (PS4®), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo™ Switch, Nintendo™ Switch 2, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and Mac and Linux via Steam.
