Upper Spencer Gulf councils are moving to ensure communities remain front and centre as the region looks ahead to 2035.
A new, council‑backed social impact assessment resource has been launched to help make sure liveability and community wellbeing are properly considered when major changes are proposed.
With significant shifts expected across the region — including clean energy development, industrial change and population growth — the checklist aims to give governments and developers greater clarity around issues such as health, housing, access and community wellbeing.
Acting Chair Mayor Linley Shine said the resource addresses a lack of shared understanding about what social impact and liveability mean for local communities.
The checklist will now be used by councils when assessing future projects across the Upper Spencer Gulf and is available on the region’s website.
