This is exactly NOT what dreams are made of, folks.
According to reports, creator Terri Minsky (the OG creator of the TV series) exited the highly anticipated revival as showrunner.
This is lowkey worrying (or highkey, depending on how much you were living for this) as there has been no announcement of a replacement.
Speaking with Variety, a Disney spokesperson said “Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series."
“After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”
From what spectators, like myself, can glean, this wasn’t merely just a showrunner busy with another project. It appears Minsky could have disagreed with Disney entirely and walked.
The revival, if you weren't aware, picks up years after the original series, when Lizzie is about to turn the big 3-0.
Duff told Good Morning America, "[Lizzie] has her dream job, she’s an apprentice working for an interior designer who’s a pretty big deal.
"She has a gorgeous fiancé who is a chef at this cool Soho restaurant."
"She has a cute little apartment in Brooklyn and everything is going her way and she’s celebrating her 30th birthday with all of her friends.”
"She then gets some pretty big news at the end of the first episode."
Little animated Lizzie is also set to return, and honestly - would it even be a reboot without her?!
"[She’s] still that loud voice inside her head saying all the things that adult Lizzie would like to be saying out loud.”
Looks like the wait continues...
