2020 has marked two major milestones for my ever-ticking biological clock: in March I turned 25, today I found my first gray hair.

To be perfectly honest, there were three milestones because a few minutes later I found my second gray hair. I have one growing from each of my temples, in near perfect symmetry. I'm shook.

It's a pretty clear question now; do I embrace it or do I try and disguise it? I have a family history of concealing these things. My Mum regularly dyes her hair, and when she visits the hairdresser she usually picks up a bottle or two of special hair regrowth shampoo for my balding father. Whenever I stay at my Dad's house, I usually splash some of this miracle shampoo on my face because I can't grow a beard. We're not ones to embrace these biological processes.

Since it's only two hairs, it's probably pretty easy to cover up. A texta could probably do the trick. I went to school with a guy who'd style his hair with shoe polish (!!) so that could be a good long-term colouring solution too.

However, slicking my hair with some black, greasy goop might prove unnecessary. A few grays might even make me more distinguished. The gray hairs on Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four are his most notable feature (besides the stretchiness), and he's a pretty cool guy; a born leader, one of Marvel comics' smartest characters... shouldn't we all aspire to be a bit more like Mr Fantastic?

Also, and this is showing my privilege, but I'm unlikely to be professionally discriminated against for looking old. I could still land a perfectly solid gig as a tv newsreader with a few silver streaks through my hair. In radio, the industry is already dominated by men who don't act their age, so as long as I still act like a teenager, I can look however I choose.

But what are your tips? How should I deal with this newfound wisdom?
