The state government followed through on their election promise to cut all funding to RecFish SA. Resource Minister Tim Whetstone will now receive advice from a hand picked Recreational Fishing Advisory Council.
RecFish had recieved $270,000 over the past two years to deal with specific fisheries management issues. This funding is set to expire in June. Labor has provided the former body funding for projects like the Murray Cod Restocking Program.
"He has created his own Council - so he can avoid independent advice - and then he gutted South Australia's major recreational fishing community organisation," Mr Hughes said.
"It is very important that recreational fishers have a body independent of government that represents their interests.”
The decision to go independent has pushed back South Australia's fishing representation by 10-15 years.
