Pumped Hydro In Port Augusta

Renewable_energy_generic.jpgA proposed pumped hydro station near Port Augusta is one step closer as developers have lodged a electricity generation licence for the $410 million site.

The Goat Hill Project is set to be located 12km west of Port Augusta, and will feature two 115MW turbines to produce clean and reliable electricity.

Pumped Hydro SA says the plant will operate continuously with high availability to respond to variations in grid energy supply and demand.

Construction on the 230 Megawatt pumped storage hydroelectric generating plant was slated to begin late last year with completion in 2020.

Labor energy spokesman Tom Koutsantonis says the delay of a number of renewable energy projects was “directly linked” to the abolishment of the state based Renewable Energy Target.
