Anger over Legislation to Allow CFS to Stop Farmers Harvesting

cfs water bomber.JPGA plan to give CFS members power to stop farmers harvesting has prompted to a parliamentary inquiry.

The legislation was introduced into State Parliament last week to stop any harvesting actions in severe weather conditions that could spark a fire.

Grain Producers SA and farmers have raised concerns over the potential impact on primary producers’ incomes.

Emergency Services Minister Corey Wingard says the parliamentary inquiry will investigate impact of the proposed laws.

He says the Bill is not a blanket ban, and will only allow the CFS to step in during high fire risk periods.

Labor’s primary industries spokesman Eddie Hughes says the bill was suddenly introduced without consulting with the affected communities.
