The Whyalla Maritime Museums new exhibition, Submerged - Stories of Australia’s Shipwrecks opened last week uncovering Australia’s shipwreck history.
Two wrecks from South Australia feature among 14 wrecks whose stories will appear in the nationally touring Submerged exhibition.
The exhibit is presented by the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Australian Maritime Museums Council and is the result of national workshops to develop the exhibition.
The exhibition is complemented by the Whyalla Maritime Museum’s own maritime artifacts and displays including items from the Governor Gawler that was wrecked off the Reevesby Island in Spencer Gulf in 1847.
The exhibit is on a two-year national tour across regional Australia and will be on display in Whyalla until March next year.
Submerged – Stories of Australia’s Shipwrecks is on display at Whyalla Maritime Museum Lincoln Highway, Whyalla until Wednesday 13th March 2019. Open 7 days. Weekdays 9am – 4pm and Weekends/Public Holidays 10am – 4pm.
