Whyalla Council Warns Against Scam Emails

computer use.jpgThe Whyalla City Council is warning the local community about scam emails being sent to residents asking for payment of parking or traffic fines.
Council IT staff are investigating the scam after residents sent in emails they had received with one claiming to be a parking infringement and another a traffic infringement.

The emails are generic and do not feature any identification or City of Whyalla branding.
The council wishes to advise locals that they do not issue fines or traffic infringements via email.
It is important that people do not click on any links in the email as it will download malware onto your computer.

For more information and help with these sort of scam emails, there is a Federal Government website HERE that also has the option of subscribing to email alerts.

If anyone has any further concerns about these emails or other emails that claim to be from the City of Whyalla, please ring Council on 8640 3444 or report them via the My Local Services app or by emailing [email protected]
