Port Augusta solar thermal plant will be happening says State Government

Solar thermal generic.jpgA renewable energy project proposed for Port Augusta has cleared the last hurdle, and will begin construction this year.
The State Government has just given development approval to the Aurora SolarReserve plant; meaning the $650 million project, will become a reality.
The 150MW plant will use mirrors to heat molten salt and then store energy, and by 2020, it’ll be supplying 100 per cent of the state’s electricity load.
It’s very good news for the region; around 650 local jobs will be available during construction and around 50 after it’s all been built.
Acting Energy Minister Chris Picton says its great news locally for Port Augusta and should drive down energy prices across the state.
