20 hectares lost in Wanderah East grass fire

bush fire.jpgFarmers and fire crews have managed to put out an out of control fire that ripped through Wanderah East on Tuesday.
The fire started around 9.30 in the morning on a property in Wanderah East, and was sparked by a mechanical failure from a header.
CFS crews rushed to the property, backed up by 10 farmer fire units-stocking back up water supplies.
For most of Tuesday they tried to get it under control, and as it threatened to run away, two fire bombers flew in from Hoyleton to lend a hand.
By the afternoon the fire was out, but not before it tore through about 20 hectares of crop in Wanderah East.
It’s a strong reminder, particularly for farmers, to maintain their mechanical gear, and avoid any flare ups as temperatures soar.
