A new program in Clare is helping people with chronic mental illnesses with a number of everyday activities.
The Mental Health Volunteer Program is a group of eight people from Clare Valley Christian Outreach who assist patients at the Clare Medical Centre (CMC) with completing tasks.
One of the founders of the group, CMC Mental Health Nurse Betsy Stewart said the patients became quite isolated so the program helps them engage with the community.
“To have someone walk alongside and support another while pushing through barriers and knowing they were there was sometimes all it took to make a difference,” Ms Stewart said.
The partnership between the Clare Medical Centre and Clare Valley Christian Outreach is celebrating a decade this year with more and more people getting involved.
