Whyalla Football League Mourns The Loss Of President Jack Velthuizen

The Whyalla Football League yesterday shared the sudden death of Jack Velthuizen who served as league president for the past six years.

The WFL issued a statement yesterday, mourning the passing of the key figure in local football, "It is with sadness that the Whyalla Football League advises of the unexpected passing of the president of the league, Jack Velthuizen."

The league and the greater Whyalla community have extended their condolences to Jack’s wife, Mary and his family.

Mr Velthuizen was born in Holland and migrated to Australia in 1960 when he was 10 years old, his father soon secured a job with BHP in Whyalla and he relocated to the steel city.

He grew up playing football, and began serving as Whyalla Football League president in 2015.

In his six years as president, he oversaw the redevelopment of Bennett Oval and was one of the biggest driving forces behind Whyalla football.
