Following post-season reports from the Yorke Peninsula’s devastating 2019/20 summer, the CFS has begun trialling a state-wide program to provide better coverage for participating farm firefighting unit (FFU) operators.
The trial program aims to better coordinate FFUs with emergency services to ensure a common approach as well as safety for everyone on the fireground.
CFS executive director of frontline services support, Georgie Cornish, is encouraging FFUs to register with the CFS, so they can work together when responding to bushfires.
Emergency Services Minister, Vincent Tarzia, also acknowledged the critical role FFU's play during bushfires, especially at the Cudlee Creek, Yorketown and Kangaroo Island fires.
The system will be trialled until the end of the 2021/22 season.
