The Morgan Sawmill in Jamestown has been given the green light to fire back up after the state government decided to include forestry as an essential service.

In a significant blow to the billion-dollar industry, SA companies were forced to shut down for 24 hours after the profession was left off the list of essential services on Tuesday.

It was a significant blow for the industry, which has been working to address the national shortage of structural timber available to the construction sector.

SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has now offered some clarity on the matter and the industry has received written confirmation that operations are able to resume.
