Port Augusta Police are warning vehicle owners to lock up, following an increase in volume crime throughout the city.

Opportune thieves are targeting cars, tempted by what’s being left behind, with common targeted items including, loose change, jewellery and bags.

While most of these unseasonal break-ins are occurring in public spaces, accommodation and caravan parks are also being affected.

Additional patrols have been deployed to deal with the spike in reports, and officers are making daily arrests but are asking the public to remain vigilant.
