The Port Pirie Regional Council is hosting an information forum tomorrow to discuss how to better provide support for local carers.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the number of Port Pirie residents who require care is 69 per cent above the national average, with around 1200 people receiving a Carers Allowance.
Key speakers for the event will include, Helen Brown from Carers SA, Yvonne Cloke from Building Local Care Workforce and Lee-Anne Bennet from Baptcare.
Port Pirie Mayor Leon Stephens is concerned that carers aren't getting the rest they deserve for a 24/7 job.
The forum is a chance to enable, empower and educate the carers in our community to have a better quality of life, through access to employment, education training or services available to them.
Carers in Australia save the Government over $80 billion with all the critical work they do in their communities.
Anyone who works as a carer or is part of the field is encouraged to attend the forum.
