MAN CHARGED OVER HOUSE FIRE IN WHYALLA

A man has been charged following a house fire at Whyalla Stuart.

Just before 3pm on Monday 5 April, police were called to a domestic disturbance at a home on Taylor Street.

A short time later, police received calls of a fire at the same home with one occupant refusing to come out of the property.

When patrols arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames and confronted a man at the front of the property who was subsequently detained and taken to hospital for a mental health assessment. Fortunately, no one in the house was injured.

The property was extensively damaged by the fire and caused minor smoke damage to an adjoining home. Fire Cause investigators were attending the scene yesterday.

The 29-year-old man from Whyalla Stuart has been charged with arson and acts to endanger life. He has been refused bail and was under police guard at hospital.
