Australia Contests China’s Barley Tariffs

The Australian Government will take China to the World Trade Organisation to contest tariffs placed on Australian barley exports.

China imposed tariffs of 80% on the industry in May this year, with impacts being felt across the sector.

Whilst the Federal Government is taking the matter to the WTO, Chair of Grain Producers Australia, Andrew Weidemann, says the industry’s concerns that this action will have further negative impacts have been ignored.

"Essentially we haven't supported government taking that action without a decent business case on the potential for other impacts on other industries and other commodities we're currently growing."
