A man allegedly spat in the face of a police officer while being arrested during the State's final night of lockdown.

Clare Police went to investigate the sound of a car hooning around Clare about 11pm on Saturday.  They attempted to pull over a Holden sedan for a defective tail light but the vehicle continued to drive to a Clare address.

When the officer approached the driver, he became agitated and was arrested for failing to stop, hinder police and resist arrest.  It will be alleged the arrested man spat in the officer's face while being placed in the cage car.

The 22-year-old Clare man was further charged with aggravated assault of emergency services worker.

He was bailed to appear in the Clare Magistrates Court on December 7th.
