The Environment Protection Authority have launched action against Nyrstar Port Pirie alleging serious environmental harm, following an acid spill.
In documents filed with the court this week, the EPA claims, “The company polluted the environment by discharging, or failing to prevent the discharge of, approximately 700 litres of sulphuric acid from its site into First Creek at Port Pirie.”
Causing potential environmental harm by polluting the environment and creating damaging conditions for fish, animals and plant life in the creek.
In court, counsel for Nyrstar asked for further time to “have discussions” about the charges with the EPA. The case has been adjourned until August.
