Man Arrested with Sword in Mid North

A man has been arrested at Bethel in the State’s Mid North over multiple offences.

Police allege that traffic patrols were conducting speed detection duties on Main North Road when they recorded a Holden sedan travelling at 113 in a 100 zone.

When the driver was stopped by police, he tested positive to cannabis. Further checks revealed the man’s licence was disqualified, and he was wanted for questioning over a ‘road rage’ incident.

The car was searched, and a large sword, cannabis and prescription medication was located.

The 32-year-old Flinders Park man was charged with numerous offences including driving while disqualified, carry offensive weapon, breach of bail, and also assault and property damage from the road rage incident. His car was impounded for 28 days.

He was refused bail and will appeared in court yesterday.

Sergeant Paul Watts of the State Traffic Enforcement Section says, “This driver's irresponsible behaviour dramatically increased the risk to all road users of being involved in a collision resulting in loss of life or serious injury. State Traffic Enforcement Motorcycle officers will continue to maintain a strong visual presence on South Australian roads to prevent and detect dangerous driving behaviour across the State.”
