The Yorke Peninsula Council has voted against proceeding with night curfews for heavy vehicles as part of its Heavy Vehicle Strategy.

The Strategy initially proposed night curfews and weather restrictions, but the measures were removed in the final version after feedback from nearly 800 public submissions.

Grain Producers SA CEO Brad Perry said the amount of submissions received by the Council shows how critical the proposed restriction was to the community.

“GPSA worked with local grain producers, the freight industry and other supply chain stakeholders to fiercely advocate against the restrictive measures that were initially put forward and we are glad the Yorke Peninsula Council has heeded those concerns, listened and taken a common sense approach, he said.

“This is a win not just for grain producers, but for all stakeholders who rely on the road network for their livelihoods.

“The proposed restrictions would have added unnecessary complexity and costs to grain transportation, which is already a challenging and time-sensitive task, particularly during harvest.”
