An RAA survey involving over 1,300 Eyre Peninsula residents highlighted that 43% of respondents found the local road network unsatisfactory.
Notably, the Lincoln Highway, Flinders Highway, and Eyre Highway were reported as requiring urgent maintenance.
The survey also revealed that 87% of respondents observed an increase in truck movements following the closure of EP grain rail lines in 2019.
This surge in heavy vehicle traffic has accelerated road network deterioration.
RAA Senior Manager Road Safety and Infrastructure, Charles Mountain, expressed community concern over the condition of the road network noting the rise in freight traffic necessitates heightened road maintenance for safety.
Mountain emphasized a statewide backlog of road maintenance estimated at $2 billion, growing rapidly.
