In a startling incident at Maitland Cemetery on the Yorke Peninsula, a woman in her 70s found herself impaled after falling while visiting a loved one’s grave.
She tripped over a guard railing surrounding a newly dug gravesite on Monday afternoon, resulting in an impalement injury to her lower calf.
The woman had been visiting the cemetery alone, and remained trapped for several hours before someone discovered her and alerted emergency services.

Her injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening, and she is now receiving appropriate medical attention.
