As the Upper Spencer Gulf cements itself as a regional centre, the Commonwealth and State Governments have invested $12-million into the Port Augusta community.

Over three years, the investment will be used to enact the Port Augusta Safety and Wellbeing Plan to make the city a thriving, engaged, inclusive, diverse and vibrant community.

Minister for Human Services Nat Cook says they had meaningful conversations with locals to plan for the future of Port Augusta.

“We’re starting to plan for the future of Port Augusta, Minister Cook says.

“One where people feel safer, people feel more positive and more engaged, and there’s a lot more opportunity.”

The project has welcomed a new member on board, Executive Officer Emily Butler saying community is at the heart of everything they do.

“People are really excited, they really appreciative that their voices are heard, they have some fantastic ideas around how they would not like only this group [leadership group] to be formed, but also Port Augusta’s future,” Ms Butler says.

This builds on workshops with over 150 people from the Port Augusta and Davenport communities, including First Nations people, service providers, local businesses, and Port Augusta Council.
