The Barunga West region has been waging a war on waste since September 2022, achieving a landfill diversion rate of 57 per cent.

This was achieved with the Food Organics and Green Organics program – better known at FOGO.

The program was introduced in response to state legislation changes aimed at improving waste management, and features a red bin for general household waste, a yellow bin for recyclables, and a lime green bin for FOGO waste.
