Aussie Cricketers Accused of Mocking India

There’s been some behind the scene dramas in the lead up to the white-ball series that kicked off yesterday in Perth. In the lead up to the ODI game, last week Kayo dropped this, now deleted, video on their social media page to promote the upcoming series.

The video saw much blow back in both the India and English press world as both countries accused the Aussies of making fun of the tense situation going on between Pakistan and India. For context, earlier this year when Pakistan and India played each other India refused to shake hands with the Pakistan team, as well as, they refused to accept the Asia Cup if a Pakistani was the individual presenting the trophy.

Even the English jumped in with the upcoming Ashes Test Series later this year, they too interpreted the video much like the Indian press did and thought it was in poor taste to publicly mock a team over their countries political atmosphere. The Australians however say that this video was actually shot back in July, before India and Pakistan played in the Asia Cup and was supposed to be referring to a different incident.

The incident the Australians claim to actually be poking fun at is the test series earlier this year between England and India in which India refused to shake the English players hand and agree to a draw in a match that was all but certain to result in a draw. This decision was heavily criticised on both sides of the fence. The Indians were criticised of stat padding and wasting time, whilst the English were criticised for their on-field behaviour and overall pouting at the refusal.

Ahead of the ODI on Sunday, Captain Mitch March was asked about his thoughts on the drama they had accidecanlly caused with the misinterpreted video to which he responded with:

“I actually haven’t seen the ad, and I don’t really know if it’s blown up,… So I don’t have too much to comment on it.”
